Fighting acid reflux
Heartburn is a symptom of Gastroesophageal reflux disease. This condition can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage. We will know that you already have this disease if you experience heartburn more frequent than the usual. Everyone can experience acid reflux symptoms once in a while for it is both a normal and abnormal condition

As mentioned above, it is abnormal when it is caused by a serious disease but it is normal if it is caused by our lifestyle and/or eating habits.

Here are the lists of foods/habits that causes heartburn that we should avoid:
• Chocolates. They cause heartburn because they contain large amounts of theobromine that relaxes the esophageal sphincter muscle, letting the stomach acid go back to the esophagus.
• Eating before bedtime (2-3 hours). This causes heartburn because lying down when the stomach is full causes the stomach contents to press against the LES harder that leads the food to go back to the esophagus.
• Wearing clothes that are too fit and too tight. They cause heartburn because clothing that fits tightly in the abdomen will press the stomach harder, forcing the food to go back to the esophagus.
• Smoking. This causes heartburn because it can weaken and relax the LES and can stimulate stomach acid.

However, whether the cause of acid reflux is normal or abnormal we still have to avoid experiencing heartburn for it can cause damage to our esophagus.
